It's not a blog, it's a feature

... you only need a fast internet connection (or a friend with a fast internet connection).
Go and get a free Linux distribution - I decided to take openSuse Linux because I will use it at work, but there are many good free versions (try Ubuntu).
Easy to install, nice to use and the good news are: you will get as special service not only a safer, faster operating system but also an office suite, image processing programs, development platforms, multimedia tools, ... the list is nearly endless.

Also LaTeX works without a problem and as a bonus, the excellent tool to generate LaTeX documents, Kile is part of the KDE.
And if you need help - there is really an huge, helpful community!

The only problem I have to focus: use KDE or GNOME - hmm, I can't decide, so I use both, alternating.

Since Redmond rejects the rest of the PC world and thinks they are the one only, there exist many freeware tools to learn your Windows system some sense of decency.

A few examples of the Micro$oft ignorance:
- openOffice works really well with Microsoft Office documents, the other way, no chance
- Linux can read files from your Windows partitions (also NTFS) with no problem, Windows does not even try to work with ext or reiserfs

For the second problem I found a good solution, the shareware tool Total Commander in connection with the freeware file system extension, called Ext2+Reiser plugin.

With my extended Linux usage I decided to write my Latex documents with the KDE tool Kile. And I just can't unterstand why I didn't use it earlier.
It just makes work much easier with many features like intelli-sense, syntax-highlighting, wizards and templates, a.s.o.
If you use Latex and Linux there is no way around it!

- If you can't sit in front of the TV and watch the games (could this happen?) there is a useful plugin for the one and only browser. You will be alerted if something important happens and can design your browser with the colors of your favorite team:

- A nice, but senseless page lets you watch the games in ASCII - it is really cool to try, but watch the whole game ... ??
