Did it happen to you that some detail in Micro$oft Windows seems like the programmers never ever used their program themselves because it is not practical. And then take open source products - they are developed by people who use that program every day and think - "Maybe I can add a feature here or make a detail easier to work with".
Don't believe me - I have two examples for you:
- Open Office: I decided to use Open Office instead of the Microsoft match and then I thought about what tool to use to be able to convert documents to pdf format. There is no need for it - Open Office contains the feature as part of it, just a simple click on the pdf icon and there is your ready-made pdf file.
- Linux FTP: I thought about what program to install for a ftp upload and then I found out that the standard file explorer Konqueror or Nautilus has the feature to upload files to a ftp server.
I would be nice if you can add also an example how you benefited of how practicable open source can be.
